THE HOUSE

Eastern Beach Art House is located on the spectacular Geelong waterfront just 1 hour from Melbourne. The House sits amidst a large verdant garden and boasts tri-level views over Corio Bay, including Eastern Beach and the Royal Geelong Yacht Club marina.

Eastern Beach Art House is hosted by residents, artist Helen Bodycomb and her husband arts manager Martin Paten.  At Eastern Beach Art House we provide short-term artist residencies, boutique B & B accommodation and a venue for small events including meetings and performances.

Eastern Beach Art House has been largely furnished with a rich collection of artworks and antiquities from the former Brooklyn Arts Hotel in Fitzroy, Melbourne.

The house is noted by the Victorian Heritage Council as being of local significance. Built in 1909 by prominent Geelong architects Laird and Buchan, this finely crafted art deco home was further improved in 1947. The unique period design remains with modern kitchen and bathroom amenities.

Rooms

Eastern Beach Art House offers two tiers of guest accommodation across five bedrooms.

The ground floor has two deluxe B & B rooms: The Salon and Bay View.
The upper floor offers two very comfortable rooms suitable for lower rate stays including artist residencies: the Front and South Garrets.
On the lower ground floor The Undercroft is a quirky former cocktail bar that can be used either as a bedroom or as a performance space/music studio.

The house is serviced by central heating. Additionally both Garrets are equipped with split system heating and cooling.

THE SALON

The Salon is a quiet, richly appointed deluxe B&B bedroom lined with polished wood panelling.

It is occasionally converted from a bedroom to an event space.

BAY VIEW

Bay View is a calm luxurious bedroom with warm even light and spectacular views across the front garden to Corio Bay.

Guests staying in The Salon and Bay View share use of the nearby bathroom which is equipped with WC, vanity, shower and spa bath. There is a second WC available for use in the adjacent laundry.

FRONT GARRET

The sunny Front Garret on the upper floor directly overlooks Corio Bay. With a fresh beachy feel, the Front Garret has two single beds and a small office desk nestled within the octagonal turret and is adjacent to a large modern bathroom with storage room and upper terrace. The Front Garret shares use of these amenities with the South Garret, enjoying stunning views over the front garden to the Geelong marina and across the bay to the You Yangs Mountain Range.

SOUTH GARRET

Also on the upper floor, the South Garret enjoys a gentle southerly light with views over the rear garden and East Geelong. This snug yet spacious painted timber room has both queen and single beds, under window desk and ample storage.

The Front and South Garrets are suitable both for artist residencies and B & B accommodation.

THE UNDERCROFT

The Undercroft is a former 1940’s nautical themed cocktail lounge on the lower ground floor. It is available both for artists residencies and as a venue for small social or performance events. Facilities include two small stages, a restored 1967 Fender Rhodes electric piano, and 1940s era timber bar. Shared bathroom facilities are available up one flight of stairs.

The Undercroft is a versatile space, suitable for either artists residencies, B&B accommodation or small performances & events.

THE LOUNGE ROOM AND CONSERVATORY

The Lounge Room and Conservatory can be used by guests from 7 am until 10 pm. Self-serve continental breakfast provisions are available in the conservatory from 7 am. The Lounge Room is perfect for reading and relaxation, where resident guests are welcome to host up to 2 non-resident visitors.  The beautifully tuned Wertheim piano can be played anytime after breakfast until the late evening.
